Payment method: SEPA Direct Debit

SEPA Direct Debit is still one of the most used and liked payment methods in Germany by customers. A grand benefit is that customers only need to enter their name and IBAN and confirm the SEPA mandate. That’s it. You take care of debiting the money directly from the customers bank account to your own bank account. This can be a convenient way to pay for customers and a successful end of a payment story.


How to use your own SEPA Direct Debit process with collectAI?​

At collectAI, we were wondering - how can we support our clients with the payment method SEPA Direct Debit if they 1. have their own Direct Debit process in place but 2. do not have the SEPA mandate confirmation from their customers?

Over the time, we were trying out different implementations and still support other options, however, we would like to show you how this solution solves the problem:

Typical customer journey​

  • Customers receive the whitelabel communication, for example an e-mail as a payment reminder from our client.
  • Customers open the e-mail and click on the link to the landing page.
  • On the landing page, customers can choose between several payment methods to pay.
  • Customers choose SEPA DirectDebit as a payment method.

  • On the payment page, customers can directly fill in the information required for SEPA mandate in a corresponding form. The amount and if the cycle is recurring is shown to the customer.
  • The name is already pre-filled to the form.
  • The IBAN needs to be entered by the customer.
  • Now, all the customer has to do is to accept the legal information about the SEPA mandate by ticking a box, and it's all done.
  • A confirmation page is presented.

Data exchange between you and collectAI​

After the successful submission by the customer, the collected data is shared with you. You can use the data in your existing process with your partnering bank. The bank needs to actually settle the money via Direct Debit from the customers bank account to your bank account. Therefore, the data can be shared on a regular basis via file exchange or in near real time via webhook. For this purpose, the SEPA mandate collected webhook has been created and shares the collected data such as Name, IBAN, debit-cycle, mandate confirmation as well as all other claim parameters to enable you to immediately further process the SEPA Direct Debit.
